What To Do

We understand that many families are unaware of what steps to take when a death occurs. At Richard-Midway Funeral Home, we are committed to ensuring that our families have the required information that they need to make the right decisions any situation. We have provided below a brief overview of various circumstances and the necessary steps.
  • Unexpected/sudden/emergency - If the death occurred at home, immediately contact the paramedics. You should then call us to arrange to transport the decedent to our facility for preparations for any arrangements.

  • Hospital/Nursing facility - The family will be required to sign a release at the hospital indicating that Richard-Midway Funeral Home is their funeral home of choice. At the nursing home, you should inform the nurses and make sure the same information is in the deceased's chart for reference.

  • Convalescent/Hospice Care - If the person passes away at home under the care of hospice, they should call the hospice nurse and then call Richard-Midway Funeral Home.

  • Out-of-town death - If the family does not want to hold services in the town where the death occurred, they should call Richard-Midway Funeral Home to inform us of the death. Everything can be coordinated from our home, and we will facilitate the transer and ensure that all of the necessary authorizations are addressed.

If you have any more questions about what steps are required, or have additional questions to any other situation, please feel free to contact us at (773) 767-1840.
